Level 3 Language Goals
These goals give a snapshot of what you’ll be able to achieve by the end of a Level 3 course. For a full list of outcomes, see the Common European Framework of Reference.

Everyday Social Skills
You’ll be able to use a wide range of language functions with confidence in everyday situations, using common expressions in a neutral and polite way.

Listening
You’ll be able to understand the main points of clear, standard speech on familiar topics you encounter regularly at work, school, or during leisure activities. You’ll also be able to follow short stories or narratives.

Reading
You’ll be able to read straightforward factual texts on topics that interest you or relate to your field of work or study, and understand them well. You’ll also be able to find and make sense of relevant information in everyday materials such as letters, brochures, or short official documents, and recognise the key points in simple newspaper articles on familiar subjects.

Speaking & Interaction
You’ll be able to handle most situations that may arise while travelling, using a wide range of simple language. You’ll also be able to start, maintain, and close simple conversations on topics you know well or care about.

Speaking & Presenting
You’ll be able to:

  • Give clear, straightforward descriptions of a variety of subjects within your field of interest, presenting them in an organised way.

  • Describe familiar topics and relate details of unexpected events, such as accidents.

  • Briefly explain your opinions, plans, and actions.

  • Give a prepared presentation on a familiar topic that can be followed easily, explaining main points with reasonable clarity.

  • Answer follow-up questions, asking for repetition if the speech is too fast.

Writing
You’ll be able to:

  • Write personal letters and notes to ask for or share simple, relevant information, expressing the points you feel are most important.

  • Produce connected, straightforward texts on familiar subjects in your field, linking shorter ideas into a coherent sequence.
