The CELI 2 examination certifies knowledge of the Italian language at level B1, which is required to obtain Italian citizenship.
The candidate must have developed language skills such that they are able to handle themselves in largely predictable situations of social and working life in a context where Italian is spoken.
At B1 level, candidates are able to interact (speaking, understanding and writing) in the context of familiar situations and topics of interest to them. They are also able to ask questions, express wishes and hopes, give reasons and give explanations, briefly and in a simple way.
Paper I
Reading comprehension and written production.
Comprehension: Candidates must be able to understand instructions, public notices, advertisements, and be able to read short texts with practical information content in order to extract information from them. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to understand the general meaning and to extract specific information relevant to the text.
Production: In addition to completing short texts with missing words, candidates must complete a form, write a message, letter or email, and be able to request and provide information, recount facts, describe situations and express simple opinions.
Paper II
Understanding oral texts.
Candidates must be able to understand salient points as well as specific details of a series of recorded texts or conversations focused on every-day life events. They must be able to demonstrate a minimal ability to reconstruct what they have heard through a written multiple-choice test.
